Prospex U.S. Special Editions

DARE TO DIVE

Built from the start for superior operation in the most challenging environments, Seiko diver’s watches became essential equipment for high-intensity exploration starting in 1965 and quickly evolved into the watch of choice for generations of polar explorers and underwater explorers. Inspired by Seiko’s 1965 landmark first diver’s watch, and launched exclusively in the U.S. market, a trio of Special Editions celebrate some of the most demanding diving locations in America and those who are brave enough to explore them. Reflecting the icy surfaces of the perilous, yet beautiful destinations that few dare to dive, the three-dimensional pressed pattern dials offer a compelling texture and showcase the varying blue hues visible above and below the surface of the water.

A Dramatic Duality

An extraordinary Limited Edition available in a controlled production run of 500 pieces, honors Seiko’s landmark 1968 diver’s watch and showcases the brand’s first mechanical GMT movement in a diver’s model, caliber 6R54. Extending the theme of duality with functionality in the sea and on land, the dramatic dark to light gradation of the dial evokes views from above and below the water, each realm reflected differently depending on the vantage point. Framed by a Made-in-Japan black ceramic uni-directional rotating elapsed timing bezel, the rich blue-green dial features a date calendar, bronze-toned GMT hand, and large LumiBrite markers and hands for enhanced legibility. Providing a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, the longest of any Seiko mechanical watch, this new creation offers a 24-hour hand that can be set independently in one-hour increments, without interrupting the time-of-day hands, to provide a second time zone reading at a glance.

BUILT FOR ADVENTURE

Built for adventure, a series of rugged titanium diver’s watches expresses the beauty and mystery encountered by intrepid explorers of underwater caves. These extraordinary Special Editions feature distinctively patterned dials suggesting the natural formations and mineral deposits on cave walls in colors that evoke the changing tones viewed by divers as their dive lights illuminate the caverns. Crafted of lightweight and durable titanium, the case and bracelet employ a super-hard coating for superior scratch resistance and are engineered for a comfortable fit on the wrist whether on deep dives or desk dives.

ECHOING THE ELEMENTS

The “Built For the Ice Diver” series offers Special Editions based on the iconic 1970 Diver’s watch, a favorite of daring explorer Naomi Uemura, whose pioneering polar explorations are mirrored in the designs, and the acclaimed 2007 automatic diver’s watch, an immediate favorite of collectors drawn to its rugged visual features, such as the ultra-wide case and the distinctly thick printed numerals on its bezel. Capturing the ever-changing colors of polar ice, transformed as it catches the light in different ways throughout the day, the intricate dials are patterned to suggest elements of the frozen wilderness. The legacy of Seiko’s Diver’s watches continues with today’s most intrepid adventurers, including Becky Kagan Schott, a five-time Emmy-award winning cinematographer, photographer and technical diver specializing in filming challenging underwater environments. Schott, a “Friend of the Brand,” has tested the endurance of these special Prospex designs in dives under the frozen Great Lakes, Alaska, and Antarctica among other challenging destinations.
