PROSPEX 1965 HERITAGE DIVER’S WATCH
In 1965, Seiko introduced its and Japan’s first-ever diver’s watch. It incorporated an automatic mechanical caliber and delivered a then extraordinary 150-meter water resistance. The watch was designed for maximum reliability and legibility in the harshest conditions and was used by the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition from 1966 to 1969. In commemoration of an extraordinary legacy, this landmark design has been recreated in a Limited Edition that honors the original and is upgraded with the slim 6L37 movement allowing it to be very close to the size and profile of Seiko’s first diver’s watch. In addition, new modern interpretations offer a glimpse into the underwater world with intricately patterned dials and superior automatic movements, including hand-assembled 8L calibers created specifically for diver’s watches.
HONORING THE LEGACY
Offering contemporary styling, upgraded materials, spectacular dial designs, and pathbreaking automatic movements, the 1965 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretations truly honor Japan’s first diver’s watch. With the same spirit of exploration and conservation, the Save the Ocean Special Editions included in this series feature dial patterns inspired by polar landscapes and underwater archaeology while supporting Seiko’s ongoing marine conservation efforts.
ENHANCED AND UPGRADED
The 1965 Diver lives on in today’s new interpretations with a sleeker and slimmer case design
and has a lower center of gravity providing enhanced wearing comfort. The case is
constructed of stainless steel with super-hard coating boasting almost twice the hardness of
regular stainless steel and offers water resistance up to 300m, a screwdown crown, and a
sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating making it the perfect timepiece for both everyday
wear and the most challenging conditions.
