With its brilliance and depth, fine enamel work transforms Presage dials into rich backgrounds for timekeeping artistry. Seiko’s first wristwatch, the Laurel, included a pristine enamel dial, its depth and beauty lauded for its long-lasting finish. As with the 1913 original, today’s Presage enamel dials are created through a painstaking, multi-stage process-each one a unique work of art.

HANDCRAFTED FOR PRESAGE

Every dial goes through a rigorous process created by craftsman Mitsuru Yokozawa and his team of experts in Japan. Because the surface of a watch dial is so small, the depth and evenness of the enamel have to be exact. In addition, since the enamel glaze is highly susceptible to shifts in ambient temperature and humidity, the exact composition must be changed each time according to the weather conditions.

THE ESSENCE OF JAPANESE ARTISTRY

The enamel-coated dial is fired in a kiln at a carefully calibrated temperature which causes the glass compounds in the glaze to melt and develop the enamel’s characteristic soft and beautiful texture. Each dial is then carefully inspected to ensure the enamel is uniform and free from imperfections. This process ensures a long lasting finish that will last a lifetime.
