THE FIRST ASTRON

It is no exaggeration to say that the Seiko Quartz Astron, released December 25, 1969, was a wristwatch that changed the world of timekeeping forever. With 100 times the accuracy of a standard mechanical watch, it was the timepiece that began the democratization of the quartz movement which would eventually bring accurate timekeeping.

THE SECOND REVOLUTION

The second generation Seiko Astron is a GPS solar wristwatch that was released in 2012. While the new Astron had functions and capabilities that far exceeded those of its 1969 predecessor, the name Astron was chosen to demonstrate the importance of the GPS Solar technology that it contained and to highlight the high accuracy which was just as revolutionary as that of the first Quartz Astron.

A STRONG AND DISTINCTIVE DESIGN

With a new strong and distinctive case shape, unique models in the Astron collection feature perfectly sculpted octagonal titanium bezels, combining solid tailoring with the highest degree of accuracy possible in a wristwatch. Powered by Seiko’s GPS solar caliber 3X62, with the improved receiver sensitivity required by the metallic bezel, this exceptional design offers time zone adjustment to 39 time zones, a multi-function indicator subdial for easy mode reference, and highly visible three-dimensional applied indices on the pressed pattern dial.

BREAKING THROUGH TO A NEW FUTURE

Extending the legacy of the Seiko Astron, the world’s first commercially available quartz watch, today’s Astron is designed for a new generation of leaders, breaking through to a new future with excellence in both innovation and style. Offering high-speed GPS time zone adjustment to 39 time zones, exceptional new Astron designs are equipped with Seiko’s 5X83 caliber which provides both a dual-time function and a chronograph that measures elapsed time in 1/20th second increments. The chronograph series showcases four subdials on the dial, laid out vertically for a sporty look, a first for Seiko Astron, and includes a time transfer function that allows to user to switch the main time and dual time indications with the push of a button. Crafted of light and durable titanium with super-hard coating, with a contemporary feel thanks to the sleek lines, slim profile, and the compact and angular design that seamlessly flows from the case to the bracelet, the newest Astron models feature a tri-fold push button release clasp with smart-adjust function that provides micro-adjustments to the length of the bracelet, achieving a superior fit.
